Is it possible for a pair of male Zebras to be successful as foster parents to eggs slipped into their nest?

I haven't tried it, but Zebras are supposed to be good fosters for some of the African finches. I did get a pair to try, but before I knew it, I had Zebra babies! End of experiment.

Sally, that is too funny! Although I have had a pair of society finches to do the same thing to me.

Liz, are you thinking of trying this? I think it depends on the personality of the birds. I have a hen soceity and a cock (I think) lone silverbill that have been sitting on eggs together. They are those two strawberry eggs that I placed in there about ten days ago. I am going to check them this weekend and see if they were fertile. I have been wondering the same thing about them.......

Thanks for the info. It might be worth a shot. It's just a possibility at this time. There is a pair of male Zebs available right around the corner from me with a small but decent cage for $50 total. The cage is worth $60+ so I could either keep the Zebs or sell them off. The owner doesn't seem to realize they are both males but it's obvious when I looked at their beaks. I didn't say anything... I'd like him to come down just a tad in price but he hasn't budged yet.

Liz I used my pair of zebras to foster a shaftail egg this season worked out great!! Not to sure if 2 males will do the job though, mine are a strong pair and great parents but I've never heard of male/male zebra fosters (unlike societies where this setup can work great).

Thanks WillieP and all! I've decided to NOT get the Zebs. My flock is happy so I'll try to stick with passive birds for my finches. :D
