Not the greatest picture.
I have a pair of these society finches with the spiked hair sitting on 7 eggs at the moment!

Are the eggs their own? Are they both crested (spiked hair)?

I actually have four small cages with 2 or 3 finches in each cage.I dont have an equal nuber of crested to non- crested so I tried to come as close as possible to pairing.I have been told it is better to breed crested to non-crested for better results. The nest that has 7 eggs there are 3 crested birds in the cage so I am not sure what the results will be.I do however have a cage with a single white crested male and a non- crested white female but there is no action in the way of nesting yet!
I will have to wait and see what these eggs bring me.

I think I know where you're going with your question Liz.
I'll go ahead and be the bearer of bad news on this. . .
Since both of these societies are crested and sounds like they are paired you need to be prepared for the possibility of deformed or weak chicks. Pairing crested to crested is not a good genetic pairing. It often results in dead in shell, small, deformed, or weak chicks.
We'll keep our fingers crossed that you and the birds get lucky and they all come out fine. In the future you should pair them with normal headed societies to avoid the chance of the above mentioned possibilities.
Good luck,
Sean

Yes, you hit it right on the head, Sean.
Best wishes Perry, but if I were you I would not allow crested to mate with crested in the future.

But on the positive side....... I have three crested and before I knew better they raised a clutch of babies. (6) and they were all fine. Four were non-crested and two were crested.

I have a crested hen, who's mate is a non-crested. They are sitting on 5 hatchlings. 3 of them seem to be crested and 2 non-crested. So like everyone said. its always better to pair a non-crested to a crested. That way the babies are guarantee healthy. not weak, ill or anything

Perry - how are your Societies and their eggs/chicks? I imagine they should have hatched by now...? How about some new pics?
