I bought a pair of Twinspots today. I was reading on them tonight that they could be agressive. Has anyone got any experience with them and will they work in a mixed aviary? I was told they would, but I am reading information that states otherwise..... They are Dybowski Twinspots.

I had them on my list until I read on this forum that they can be agressive. I hope they work for you - they are beautiful birds!

only person I can think of that has twinspots is Williep. try sending him a pm and asking his opinion

I saw some twinspots at the Bird Mart today. They are beautiful..

I'd be interested in knowing how they play with others too.

Well I heard the same thing about lavendars and many people say otherwise.... so I am hoping to hear from williep soon. I think he has his in a mixed aviary and perhaps if you only have one pair it would work.

If not.... they can go back.

Donna, I have only a male Greenbacked Twinspot, and I have read that they are the least aggressive and easiest of the twinspots, so I can't really tell you about yours. I did put this male in various mixed cages, and he was always a sweetheart, got along with CBs and Owls. Then I put him in with a pair of Red-faced Parrot finches--again, all seemed well and they got along, even though I was placing reds with reds, which should have warned me. One day, I found the Twinspot plucked and beaten up-- the Parrot finches were wanting to breed, and I learned that they can become very aggressive when breeding. I never thought about the Parrots being the problem, they are normally such sweeties. So here the pushy species was taken down by the passive species!

So I think that some of these problems only come up when the birds get in breeding mode, and sometimes there is never a problem. As long as you have a backup plan, like a cage, just in case they ever do get a little obnoxious, I would be tempted to try it. They are such beautiful birds!

Wow, good to know Parrot Finches can become agressive when getting into breeding mode - thanks Sally. Have you noticed that they are cuddly and snuggle up to each other for sleeping?

Thanks Sally.... My parrot finches cuddle right next to each other every night on a swing. I think that is why they would not sit on their eggs at night. They wanted to be together.

I have the twinspots in a cage right now with the blue gould. There is no problem so far. They are not skittish a big and are eating everything I throw at them.

Here is a pic....... I am going to try to put them into the aviary in about a month. I hope they get along. I will watch them.

Oh they are BEAUTIFUL, Donna! Very nice specimens of both the blue Goulidan and the Twinspots. Such contrast!

Thanks Donna...I guess I'm trying to figure out if 2 males or 2 female Parrot Finches would cuddle as well as the m/f pairs.

Lovely birds! I find that most of the birds are no trouble when new, they are still shellshocked from being moved. I even put 3 RCCB males together in one side of a 24x16x16 cage for the mart, and never a bit of squabbling--they were too intimidated by the mart to waste any energy fighting amongst themselves!

Yes, Liz, my parrot finches cuddle a lot--they are very active birds, and normally so sweet.

Ooooo....they are so pretty looking...I am jealous!

IF they were going to be agressive which birds do you think it would be that they would have a problem with? The parrots and strawberry finches due to color?
