Good morning gentlemen,

Your feedback is highly appreciated if the following questions are answered:

1-Are these birds same gender (male-male or female-female) please advise which one is female or male?
2-If these bird are opposite sex i.e. (male-female), could I breed them?

Note:

•I bought them about $20 from the traditional bird market in my town.
•The salesman said these birds called ( strawberry finch) male : has wide red line on its head while female: has thin red line on its head
i have pic but i can't attached it ( i don't know the way)

first of all, can you tell us where you're from?
To post an image, you can simply upload it on some sites such as imageshack.us or photobucket, then copy the "hot link for forum", and post it here.
I personally dont think straberries have any "red line" on their head, the female have a white-yellow belly and a duller-yellow back with some tiny white spots, and there're some red feathers on the tail.
If you check the Finch Information Center on the left of the forum, you'll esily find strawberries photos to compare to yours.
Im still waiting for your photo!!

Also, just a suggestion to get another type of perch. Those plastic ones are not very good for their feet. If you would read the Finch Information Center it will give you some great ideas for perches and cage size.

They are beautiful Black Rumped Waxbills. I guess you need to have a look at the underside and see which has a larger, darker rosy patch on the underbelly, to try to tell the sex. I don't think the red eye stripe is any indicator. Or as the FIC says, wait for one to sing. Good luck. Very pretty birds!

Well Congratulation on the new birds. Although they're not strawberry. At first I thought WOW, what a deal 20 bucks for strawberrys. Tell me where?? :) But anyways, they are beautiful. I hope they didn't rip you off.
