My juvies are 5 weeks old and weaned. I know the two fawns have to be females but the grays are showing no male markings at all. All their beaks are changing so I thought I'd be seeing some of their color coming in. Of course they might all be hens. Is it still too early to tell?

Hi Sally,

They don't get their adult plumage til about 8 wks. of age. Of course it doesn't happen overnight, so you might be able to see the first hint of orange cheek patches in a few weeks.

Thanks, Tammie. I thought I 'd be seeing some other changes besides their beaks by now.

Update: Week 6 and still no coloration besides the beak. One is a male though, he's practicing his song (believe me he needs it) all day long. The fawn twins were given away last Sunday and the parents and the two remaining babies are still housed together and getting along fine.
