The youngsters that I scared out of the nest prematurely are doing great.... they now, after several days of learning how to get around are reclaiming their nest. In and out they fly having a great time

Hi candace....what kind of nesting material did your birds use? My pair have used all kinds. They put it in the nest box then they take it out. I have seen them mate but no eggs yet

Rafael,
I use coconut fiber. I usually put some in the nest and semi shape it. I then add a little of ABBA nesting materials, a mix of moss, hair, cotton, burlap, etc. I then will toss some materials on the floor of the aviary so the birds can finish it to their liking. Sometimes the male will even carry some of the aviary floor bedding up to incorporate it into the nest.
If yours are building and undoing, they probably are not yet ready to breed. How old are they? Are you sure that you have a pair? Many times 2 males will constantly build and rebuild. 2 females will not build but lay eggs in a bare nest it seems.

I had them in cages next to each other and the male would sing. When I put them in the same cage they started to mate right away, they still do and the male still makes the same call. They might be still too young Ive had them for 3 months I dunno how old they are.
