I have 5 babies gouldian finches that hatched about a month ago. Their colors are the same as when they first fled the nest.

How long does it take for gouldian finch babies to show colors like their parents? The parents are Red Head, Purple breast, and green backs.

It can take anywhere from 6 months up to 1 year for slower birds. Typically they are coloured up around 6 months of age. :)

I feel like the average time is around 8-9 months of age before they are fully colored.
Some take longer, some color up faster.
I haven't been able to single out any one thing that makes some babies color out faster than others.
I've had some babies from a clutch color in 4 months, and other babies from that clutch that took 7-8 months.
It seems that warm temperatures and a protein rich diet help, but all of my birds are exposed to the same conditions, and I still see a big variety in the length of time.
So there is obviously more to it than just environmental factors.

I can't remember the exact reason, but hens usually color up faster than cocks.
