RCCB & Star Fledglings! WOW!!

Post by L in Ontario » Thu Sep 10, 2009 5:55 pm

I was changing water/food dishes when I got home and did the Soc's cage first as usual. I turned around and when I turned back there was a RCCB out of the nest! GAH - too early! I watched him flopping/hopping around a bit and then I caught him up and put him back in the nest. No sooner did I get my hand out of the cage when one was out again... POP - there was a second one! POP... POP - two more :!:  OMG they are all cute as can be but it's too early!! They were all flying/hopping/running around and sticking their heads through the bars!! I quickly saw that the space in the center where the divider goes would allow them to escape so I got some newspaper and fitted it the whole length from top to bottom blocking that spacing off.

Will post pics in a bit (when I finish feeding/watering the other finches and parrots). A few minutes later (for ever it seemed) 3 of them were back in the nest! Then 1 came back out again to join the fourth. Thank God the last one never did come out...yet. I hope they all go back in when the lights go out. [-o< I did turn the temp up a degree to make sure it's warm enough (25C) now. I'm still in shock as I did not expect this until about mid next week.

I guess that this is where the expression "early bird" comes from  Waiting on pics.

Liz.... your just too funny. I am sure they will be okay. Courdons always look unfinished when they come out anyway. Will you put them back in if they don't go on their own?

Thanks everyone! They surely had me fooled - now I'm thinking maybe they've been out before when I haven't been around. They are all back IN the nest and the 3 Socs are guarding/blocking the entrance! =D> How'd they do that? They are SO smart!

Here's the pics of the jokers - 2 RCCB's first then the 2 Stars's. One more RCCB who will probably POP out over the next day or two! Woohoo - I love a good surprise. I can say that as I'm so relieved they all made it back in the nest and aren't quite a helpless as I first thought.

OMG!!!! What adorable photos....that first one is precious and a little comical.

Liz....we just have to have a photo caption contest for that first one don't you think? =D> You should post that in a separate posting and we can all think up some captions.....please...please!

The winner will be awarded a pair of D cups as the prize!

I too scrolled down and then burst out laughing with that first photo! With the wild CB hairdo, and the eyes just staring straight at you--couldn't have gotten a better picture from a pro! I've had that happen before--one pops out, and when you try to put it back in, it sets off a chain-reaction. You just have to give it up and let them be on their own--they usually go back in by nightfall.
