New finches, masked grass finch and cherry finch, questions.

Just got a few pairs of each of these in, masked grassfinch and cherry finch (all fawns).

What enviroment do they breed best in? I was told to colony them, so I could either put them in my aviary, or into double breeding cages but without the seperator, so i'd have 2 pairs of each together in a large double breeding cage.

One thing though, I do have hecks grass finches in my aviary, lots of them. I read that it might not be such a good idea to mix masked grass finch and hecks grass finch in together?

Yeah they are nice, masked grass finch are supposed to be really hard to get in the UK, the southern part of it at least.

Oh, made a mistake about the cherrys, they arn't fawn, they are isabella cherrys, which is different I guess, like fawn though, with the lighter colours.

I don't have either, but I think the Heck's and the Masked can crossbreed, so you wouldn't want them in the same aviary.

Hello, I also have cherry's but I only have a pair, a normal male and a fawn female. I currenlty have them in an indoor aviary with a pair of star finches and I'm attempting to breed both speecies at the moment. I believe cherry's pair up just like gouldians as opposed to one male to mulitple females like my village weavers. They cherry's aren't very good nest builders though and like TONS of privacy so never do nest checks. We haven't had a succesfull clutch yet but we keep hoping. I'm pretty sure though it's not a good idea to breed grass finches and cherrys in the same aviary because they will hybridize just like the hecks and the grass finch will. I'd breed them in two seperate cages. Good luck!
