Hi,
i brought a pair if finches yesterday, i was told they are male and female, i think they are both female, ive attached a picture, what do you think? also what type/mutation are they, the guy said they are a pair of fawns,

They look both female to me. With the whites you go by the beak color. Male's beaks will be considerably more orange/red than the females.

I would have to say the same , in my time with Zebras the male has always had the darker beak so they both look female to me too

Yep...looks like 2 chestnut flanked white females...

I'd have to agree with everyone's prognosis. Although in the one picture it appears as though there is some fawn frosting on at least the one hen's back. She could be split to Continental Chestnut Flanked White (CCFW) We have a hen like that. That might be where the guy who sold you the girls was getting fawn. Too, white birds can have pied markings that don't necessarily show. One of the girls could be a very slight fawn pied CFW, looks like there might be some type of pattern on her in the one picture. Tough to see cause they're a little grainy.

How does the coloring on the girls backs look to you? Are they solid or is their some frosting or type of pattern on them?

The picture where they are being held shows their CFW markings (gray caps, black teardrop markings) from the front and the lighter beaks most likely mean they are hens, but there is always the possibility that something else could be going on there. Just to be safe, listen to hear if either one of them starts singing. Then you know for sure you have a male.

Where did you purchase the birds from, a pet store or a breeder of some sort?

both females... my bird shop told me if the white zebs have tear drops, they are always female... (guess thats true)

Thats not strictly True, there are so many mutations now that thats not always the case

Read that slightly wrong i read that as all female have teardrops but i also have a male with a teardrop.

hmmm.... okay... I always knew you all were smarter here than the local bird shop...lol.

Maybe when i asked, she meant if it came from her shop, not sure... I have since gotten rid of those zeb's and moved on to other finches. She was a mean mama to her babies...lol
