Are star finches active? Looking for active finches
I have a pair of gouldians and they're lovely of course but kind of sedate despite the ample amount of room they have in the aviary.
Looking for a bit more of an active finch without an unpleasant song. (no zebras or owls. no offense to anyone who owns those, i had them at one point too. Still have the zebra.) Star's seem to fit the bill but i haven't actually seen their activity level.
Any suggestions?

Shaftails are very active birds Brette. And you can even buy some not too far from home. I know someone who has a few that are up for grabs.

My Stars are not very active, unless I go near their cage - then they are very skittish (so you don't want that either).
I agree with Janine - Shafties are more active than (my) Stars. Hurry! Run! Go get some from Janine!! She's a great finch-mommy!!

Red throat parrot finches, forbes parrot finches, blue face parrot finches are the most active I have ever seen. Many of your smaller waxbills are active also, goldbreast, st. helenas, etc.
orange bishop Weavers are also always on the go.

My Stars are pretty active--they are the most inquisitive things, always first to check out the eggfood, the bath, etc. When I had them loose in my 10x10 room, they were extremely active.

In my group Shaftails are the busiest and most active...I agree 100% with that one, next the zebras, then the owls, St. Helena and Societies.
Least active are RCCB, Silverbills (they love to sit and sing), the Gold Breast (they are more into preening and cuddling), then the Orange Cheek.

I find the Cordons to be active. The pair I have start hopping from one side of the cage to the other like crazy as soon as I turn on the lights. I have them in a 3x2x2.5 ft cage and they just cant set still most of the day. Their song isn't unpleasant in any way.

My shafttails and stars are the most active birds in my aviary...
male star sings up a storm all day long as well.
I think my owls would be next in line...

Shaftails readily breed for you also. The male sings most of the day and they are always busy.

I've always found parrotfinches to be the most active finch, hmmm hyper-active may be a more descriptive word for them
