Hi all. I have a pair of CBs in my 3x2x2.5 cage and I'm thinking about adding a pair of Owls too but just want to know if it's possible for them -either pair- to breed -if they ever decide to- with the presence of the other pair in the same cage ? My understanding is that Owls are peaceful, right ? How active are Owls ?
Also, I've been trying to post a couple of pics of my Cordons here but when I copy the pic from Photobucket and paste it here it covers the whole page. How do I make it smaller like the rest of the pics on here ? Any body knows ? Thanks.
Mixed species and breeding.

Re: Mixed species and breeding.
Owls and Cordon bleus get along great! I lost my female owl recently and my male owl went solo for a few days but has now been accepted by my bleu pair. They roost together throughout the day and preen eachother, and I have a feeling my female bleu Rosie likes the owl better than her own mate.
All three are by far the friendliest birds I have. As for breeding, I can't speak from experience but I think with a large enough cage it should be fine to breed them together. But honestly breeding these two species is a secondary concern because, to me, they have both come off as extremely stubborn. My bleus haven't even used a nest yet. My owls would use the nest together before I lost the female, but they would never build with the nesting material I offered them. Owls are (and like I said this is from my own experience) pretty active. Mine would love to explore together and were fairly brave when I would come near- compared to my other birds who would flee if they saw me a mile away. I think every owl owner loves their owls for their great personalities. I have never had one bird attack my owls, and even my violent green singer loved to preen them! They made friends with every bird they met.
When posting pics using photobucket you should (if you don't already) copy the image code that looks like [img]dkdkdks[/ img] so that it is viewable in the forum. When you preview the post the pictures are gigantic- go ahead and post it anyway. This forum automatically resizes your pictures when you post them in a thread, but for some reason it doesn't show up right in the preview. Most of us are posting gigantic pictures as well, the forum resizes them without us having to do anything.

Re: Mixed species and breeding.
Thanks for the detailed reply, Domenic. Like I said in my original post, my cage is 3x2x2.5 ft. So, I don't know if that's considered big enough if they ever decide to breed. I don't think I'll ever have any luck breeding any kind of finches even if they were Societies. I just dont have luck at all but I'm just thinking MAYBE. The female CB is the one who occasionally picks up a straw and starts dancing and singing. The male is not the least interested and neither one has ever even looked inside the nest.
Anyway, I don't care much if they didnt breed but I was hoping if they did I'd be able to have young birds that would be tame when they're fully grown.
About posting pics, well, last time I posted some pics they were never resized by the site and they were huge you had to use the arrows to view the whole pic. I tried this time and I think the same thing would've happened. I know it's no big deal but was wondering why this is happening. I'll probably post anyway.
Thanks.

just set photobucket to resize your photo's to 640 x 480 and you wont have any problems posting them.

Thanks, mickp. I don't know how to do that but I'll try to figure it out.

Re: Mixed species and breeding.
VERY unlikely that they will be tame.
I've had a few clutches;
- Zebras are VERY skitish from the day they fledge. They just do NOT like my hand in the cage, even when I am putting food in the cage. Would be different if they were hand raised, but that is a LOT of work and responsibility.
- Gouldians start out tame, I could grab them to band and move them. But after a while they become afraid of your hand.

I think if you interact with the young birds on a daily basis they should be tame enough or at least not as scared of us.
