please help me identify new finch
Hello, I got this little guy from a breeder that said his mate had died and since it is quite a rare bird she didn't foresee the possibility of finding a new mate for him. She only new the name in french (quebec) and I have not had luck finding info on it using the name she gave. He has a similar look to a Bicheno, but his front half is all gray and his back half starting from the wings is all green. Thanks

Maybe a cross of an owl/gouldian??? It looks like the throat has a bar like an owl and the head looks a little bit like an owl but faint?
Very different looking little bird, cute.

I have never seen a swee except in pictures, but to me it looks similar to that.
Also, I saw a bird one time at the mart and I even posted a picture of it. IT was rare and looks much like this one, but I cannot find it.
I will keep trying.

The Grey-headed Oliveback (Nesocharis capistrata) is a common species of estrildid finch found in Africa.

Yes...that is it!!! I posted a picture here of that bird somewhere.
It is certainly a very rare bird. Floyd had a pair one time. They were 400.00 a pair.

I think it would be very hard to find a mate for that bird.
Congrats...it is a beautiful little bird.

The bird is rare in captivity but common in the wild.

yes, that is him and the comments seem to go along with what the breeder said $400/pair...she basically gave him to me because she didn't have a use for him. Thank-you

Pretty. They breed them here in SA. They are expensive here too and I think difficult to breed.
Congrats. Favour may shine on you again and you find a mate by chance? who knows.

Good to know that there are others around. Just in case you wanted a pair
Did Floyd have that one Donna?
