What in the world are these boys doing????
I have two male societies in a cage waiting to get girlfriends, one is a fawn named Chipper and a pearl named Lance.
All my other birds got fresh coco fiber today and I decided to give some to the boys to keep them busy. Their cage is on a lower tier on the shelving unit and right next to my desk. I watched them taking strands and "sticking" it in a pile over the nest, Chipper climbs inside and starts pulling strands down into the nest but gave up. He went to go eat and Lance decided to use the water cup as a spa tub.
Guess they need girls to help fine tune the weaving!!!

Maybe this is their attempts at getting the bachelor pad in shape before the ladies arrive. They both sleep in the tube nest, they are just sitting looking at the mess they made...guess mom will go clean it up. I am tempted though to leave it for a bit and see what they will do with it.

I don't know... Elvis did a gorgeous job at building a roof all by himself
This was their first try at it and it shades the nest - sooo they have a roof!
I love it

I have a pair of societies on eggs, the male is a chocolate and female is a fawn. If they have a female chocolate offspring I will pair it with the pearl male John sent me to make more pearls. So they have to wait for girlfriends, in the meantime they can practice building. And they need practice!!!!!

Well they boys pulled it together. Their cage is near the desk so I can watch what they do and how they built the nest out.
The big clump of material was put over top of the entrance, one finch would get inside and pull the fiber down and use his beak to tap it into the sides of the bambo tube, it sounded like he was hammering, now the inside is scuplted and ready for the ladies.

See, they knew what they were doing...just taking their time being as how there were no ladies to impress.
They did an excellent job.

It is just missing flowers and mood lighting.
The chocolate male and fawn female have eggs that are due to hatch soon, it will be a while bfore the girls arrive! In the meantime the boys can do landscaping!

Amazing job, Cindy! It doesn't get any better than that! Oh, except maybe for babies inside!
