Is there such a thing...

as a yellow gouldian that is so light yellow it appears white? I just checked on a baby gouldian that I gave to my societies. He is getting his feathers now and they are bright white. Like, the color of printer paper. I even held up a piece to him lol. But he has a yellow mouth node. And I believe the mouth node has to be white in order for him to be a silver. When I take a picture of him, he has a yellow hue to his skin and feathers. He doesn't really look like that in person. You can kind of see how white his tail feathers are in the close up pic. I have had many yellow baby gouldians, and all their feathers have come in very obviously yellow to the naked eye. I was very surprised to see this guy, my mouth kinda dropped. But then I realized he couldn't possibly be silver. I took pics with the flash and he came out yellow. Then again, my camera sometimes completely changes the color of objects. Just like it turned his nails yellow, they are actually clear/pinkish. His parents are a red head, dilute back, purple breast male and a red head, green back, purple breast female. Any ideas? Anybody ever seen super light yellow babies that appear white?

For a comparison, those are white pied societies with him. In person they are the same color the to naked eye. I guess my camera just picked up the microscopic yellow in his feathers. It's a pretty good camera. :)

I had the same surprize and confusion last year. It is a yellow. It will darken. Here is the post with good info and pictures.

This is my white bird almost a year later. The darkest one on the bottom perch.

Very informative thread, thank you for showing it to me! I guess my little white bird will slowly darken. Which is ok, still a great learning experience. Boy was I shocked when I saw those feathers this mornin'. Thanks again!

You are welcome. I too was shocked when I saw the white feathers on my first one. I have had several since, they always color out yellow some darker than others. I sure hope you will continue to post pics of this chick as it grows. I would love to see the color changes :D
