We are new to all of this. We bought 2 gouldians and 2 society finch.
We've had them about a month now and the pair of society just hatched their first clutch. We were told the gouldians were too young to know their sexes since they were not fully colored. They were supposedly about 4 mos old. They are still not colored, but seem to be doing ok. The head on one is getting black and the other is still kind of bald. I can't get a great picture, I haven't tried to handle them, don't want to freak them out...especially since there are babies around
with this picture, could anyone give any indication of age or sex? I understand siblings cannot mate and these are from the same clutch, so I'd have to make a decision, if they are opposites sexes I suppose.
I have so much to learn, but we are truly enjoying them. Can't wait to see the colors come in!

Most good breeders won't sell their Goulds until they have completed their moult and are fully colored. It's impossible for me to say what you have there. Perhaps someone else can help you.

They can't really be visually sexed reliably as juveniles, but young males often begin to sing before they obtain adult colors.

It's true, my baby boys all start singing "the boy song" LONG before they get their adult colors.

I just got a new juvenile BH WB that is not fully colored, but Choco already is starting to sing.

I had never seen the mating dance. Skittles, my older bird started to court him, singing and hopping up and down. It was so funny.
