I've got my first pair of Berry finches in Dec '08. Then found another male in Apr '09. Now I finally got two more hens and a male last night on a flight all the way from British Columbia! WooooT

I was very anxious about them as it was my first time ever getting birds by air and the high cost; but I can now HIGHLY recommend this for all rare or hard-to-find birds!!

The plane was delayed an hour but they were in great shape. No water spilled from the little water dishes in each of the 3 compartments - attesting to how well they were taken care of and not jostled around at all on the WestJet flight.

Here's pics of the shipping crate, peeking inside (for Donna!), and finally pics of the 3 Berries who started chirping as soon as they got into their quarantine cage. I had their water (with Worm Away) and seed already in the cage, so once they got in I won't have to disturb them again until I change their water tonight. Once out of quarantine, I'll be able to set up 3 pairs to breed and hopefully get some chicks... finally. PS - yes these are wild caught birds.

Congratulations!!!! I just love these little birds. I will miss them so much when my pair dies. They are a lovely addition to any aviary! I wish you all the best for future babies!!

That's what the shipping crate Critter came in looked like, only it wasn't divided up into sections (looks like it is in the photo but maybe not)

I find the airlines take very good care of them.

So is Canada allowing wild-caughts in from Asia? The U.S. won't let them come in, due to bird flu (how long ago was that?) in Asia. I'm thinking since they came from B.C., that they are imported from Asia. Tell me more, I am so excited to learn any are coming in! That means new bloodlines, which is probably the most important thing right now.

last week i have bought 2 pair juvenile strawberries.very cheap price.the pice is only $6 for 4 strawberries .in this season strawberries are very available in the local market.

A big Congrats on your Berries I have found the airlines are wonderful with these little birds.

If you can't get the wild birds from asia and you are short on bloodlines here in the states, maybe you could contact breeders who captive/domestic breed in other countries that are allowed to import. It would be costly to ship/quarentine but may be the way to go to get the breeding stock you desire. (maybe Liz will have future breed stock for you )

OMG Suman - are you going to faint when I tell you I paid over $500 in total for these 3 Strawberries?! You need to export to Canada (but for a little less please).

I wish I knew more to tell you. I will ask if the importer knows where in Europe they were caught - his wife didn't know. I've been on his waiting list since last fall.

Thanks everyone! Currently I have the "older' trio all together in one breeding cage - I was trying to make one male jealous of the other when I put them together, but all three get along famously and still no eggs in the nest!

So I'm thinking to split up all three (2 males and 1 female) and mix them with the 3 new birds at the end of March in 3 separate breeding cages.

A big 'thumbs up' for you, Liz. That is soooo great and I am soooo envious One thing for sure, it means MORE Strawberries in a controlled atmosphere that will probably produce excellent offspring! More Strawberries means somewhere down this road, in the future, may be Strawberries for me! (and anyone else who wants to own them). I have had my name on a list, also, for quite some time now. I even wanted to pay in advance. Very good luck in the breeding. They are great little birds.. as you know.
