Confusing about Java finch mutation

Since my java hen died, my cock's been alone for months. So I decided to find him a mate, and I ran to the bird store. I saw 2/3 type of Javas there: normal gray, fawn, and white. I don't like white much, so I tend to bring home a fawn, but I saw there 2 type of birds with the same bronze brown colour, one is pretty dark, and the other is very light(the head colour almost turn into light yellowish brown). I just want to ask, is that kind of colour call fawn(no matter how dark or light the bird is?)

They are all beautiful - I would have a very hard time deciding on one if they were all in front of me. [-X

I used to own Javas years ago. They have such personalities. The site Mattias refers to I use to reference a lot. If you go to the home buttom on the top right it will take you back to the index, this guy has a ton of advice and knowledge about Javas.

Enjoy them, congratulations.

What? You don't have an igloo in your backyard all year long? :o

If I saw Javas for $20 each on Kijiji local to me - I'd have to snap up a pair!
 (*Going to check Kijiji right now!*)

There are lighter and darker Fawn Java mutations, as some people have said, but also keep in mind immature Fawn Java Sparrows are lighter in color. When I got my Fawn as a newly-fledged baby, it was very light in color with no head markings.

Here are some photos of my Javas from the 1990s. I got all 3 as young birds and tamed them all. They would fly to me when I called them!

Is it true that they have to be housed on their own? There is a breeder here, in St-Jerome, that almost always has them for sale on kijiji. I might try and get a pair or 2 in the future.

Janine,

I think in a cage, Java Sparrows should be housed only with other Javas. They aren't necessarily mean but they are big compared to many other finches so they might intimidate them. I think in an aviary, they are more compatible with other finches.
