Happy together?

Post by SuzE » Tue Mar 16, 2010 3:54 pm

Would my green singer live happily with 2 female society finches? Their cage would be 42 by 18. Thanks

Hopefully someone with more green singer experience will come along to answer. I do know that they are listed in the pushy categorie, and societies are very laid back.

Sorry, I have no experience with these birds.

But maybe you should repost under "finch chat" or "housing" or "species" instead of "off topic". With that title some members might not even read that post thinking that it's about something completely different... Usually jokes and funny stories unrelated to finches are shared in this forum... :-)
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

I agree with Ursula - so I'm moving this to Species to try and get you more responses. I don't have knowledge about housing these two together either.

I have a pair of singers in with a mixed group... all were "laid back" except the singers...

whats interesting is the singers so far are not agressive at all... they dont even push to eat first... they happily dangle upside down and watch :D

Dixielandfarm, have they tried breeding yet? I've read they are passive up until breeding time, then they become aggressive.

In answer to your question SuzE, my green singer is in with 15 other passive birds and doesn't give anyone a problem. He likes to keep to himself and will peck at someone if they get too close, but he minds his own business. I think a green singer would get along fine with societies.

Thanks for your replies, Dixieland Farm and Domenic. I went ahead and put my birds together and they all seem quite happy. It took a couple of day adjustment for my one soc, Biscuit, because she kept calling for her parent whom she could see across the room. Didn't take long for everyone to adjust tho and now my socs and singer all sound alike  I'm not sure who is copying whom but they are the noisiest cage I have
