This is how my Societies sleep at night. Do yours sleep like that too?
Should I maybe remove this plant so they start perching during the night? I just can't imagine getting a good quality sleep in this position.

Here they are at the top of the plant.

When I had plants in my cage, all the birds slept like that, it seems. Makes them feel safer and more hidden, I guess. The reason I took plants out of my cage is that they constantly needed poop cleaning. But really, they are perched - just perched on that plant, and not on a wooden perch. It's no difference to them.

I don't know - but it seems like the combination of cover and a change in position for their feet would be very restful. Pretty birds!

When I first got my Societies I noticed that they preferred the plants to the perches. Those are pretty birds!

Poop is a bit of a problem but I take the plants out and soak them in a sink of warm water and that loosens the poop up.

I wouldn't worry about them roosting on the plants. If they become uncomfortable, they'll move to a regular perch.

Check this out, One of my crazy canary hens once made a "nest" in a silk plant. The egg stayed there for a week before I removed it!

My 2 societies sleep cuddled with my 2 owls. Their so funny when they start to roost at night, someone will sit next to another and they sort of scoot along the perch until someone stops them on the other side, then they are snuggle.

The other night I couldn't see one of my gould hens and I thought I might have accidently let her out when cleaning. Funny bird was perched in the silk vine at the top of the cage watching me look for her She's been tweeting a lot lately and I think she's telling me she would like a nest.

Looks like my Zebra is not the only one to lay eggs in different places.
However, Fiona prefers seed dishes, any of them will do. She even managed to leave one egg in the tiniest cup.

My societys (two) sleep together, all cuddled up. Were on top of a wicker nest box, then, the last few nights, they go inside the wicker nest box.

Every night at approx. 8:30pm, they go to bed.

In fact, just today I put a larger wicker nest box in cage. Thought the one they sleep in is just too small for both of them. But, 8:30 comes, and there they go, back in the smaller nest box. I even changed the location of the smaller one, put the larger nest in the smaller ones original place. They still chose to sleep in the smaller nest box.
What can I say? I gave them a choice, and they want to spend their time in the smaller one.

These birds are so darn cute, and bring me so much enjoyment.. I am already, after just a month of being a new finch owner, thinking about getting the larger double flight HQ cage. I have the single flight HQ cage,
but would love to add to the family.

LOL, Hope, so funny how we sometimes can't find our finches. This happened to me the other day when I was checking on our fids and noticed that our white Society was gone. Upon closer inspection, I realized that she was squished between the side of the cage and the shaft-tail tail finch, almost underneath the shaft-tail.

Mine do the same thing when they settle down for the night. They all start sleeping away from each other but w/in a hour or so you can hardly tell them apart, they are so close to one another. Sometimes they sleep on each side of our diamond dove, which I think is even funnier because to me it looks like the dove sleeps with a bunch of kids.

Rae, I am also rather new to finches. I bought the first one about 2 mos ago. It was Zebra who I named Fiona. She almost instantly stole my heart so off to a pet store I went the very next week to buy more.

Last week when I was at a pet store I checked their finches. There was a small wicker basket in the cage and I could see 4 heads sticking out. LOL. They looked so darn cute!
I guess they like to be close to one another.

Wow, you are already thinking about the double-flight cage?
I am still waiting for the single flight HQ cage.
Once it arrives, I would love to add one more finch, but I am not sure which one yet. Gouldians are v. pretty but I have read that some have health problems.
