There are two dud eggs and two fake eggs in with them. I'm getting them ready for more Fire eggs (going to be transferred to them this week).
Thank you Judy. It's such a shame my Fire adults won't raise the chicks themselves. They incubate perfectly, then the second the eggs hatch, they toss and mame/mutilate. So I'm going to remove all their eggs tonight to the Socs, as I believe the eggs are only a few days away from hatching. I've given the Fire adults plenty of chances to redeem themselves only to come home to dead hatchlings in the cage - close to ten clutches (all lost) since getting them in 2008. These are the first two surviving chicks from them!Pukasand wrote:Great job, Liz. Look at the color on their tails already! Mine have just gone back to nesting again. Hope I'm as lucky as you.
Yes it is a shame. They've laid 3 clutches in 2008, 3 clutches in 2009 and this is their second clutch now in 2010 - so yes almost 10 clutches wasted. I believe it's the male but I'm never in the birdroom when the tossing takes place.Pukasand wrote:OH, wow, Liz,... 10 clutches???Which parent is the culprit? That's such a shame.
