Green Singer Hybrid??

Post by jamezyboo21 » Fri Jul 02, 2010 5:57 pm

I bought a hybrid from a store the other day just to have it. I dont want to breed it, I just liked how it looked and it was so tiny which is perfect for my aviary because i keep all the tinier finches in it. We dont know what it is but i think its part green singer. What do you think its mixed with?? Here are a few pics to give you an idea of what it might be.

I saw that bird in your other picture and wondered what it was. The rest I could identify. I'm stumped on this one, also. I'm curious to hear what others have to say.

To me, it doesn't look much like a green singer. The body type is much more indicative of a waxbill, and the fact that you say it's quite tiny is, to me, another indication that it might be some kind of waxbill hybrid. It's a very pretty little bird, whatever it is!

Are you sure it isn't a female orange weaver or an out of color male orange weaver?

I don't think so. It is a lot smaler then they are and it has more of a green body then a yellow brown like the orange weavers. I use to have orange weavers. He is about the size of an owl finch.

From the picture it looks like a European Green Finch to me :?: You might do a search on them and see if the picture matches your new bird.. BTW, if it is the male has a great song....

Yay, Thank You!! That's exactly what it looks like. I dont know if its male or female but by the pictures it might be a female because it doesnt have all the black like some of the pictures show. I will have to put it in a cage by itself just to see if it sings or not. I got lucky to because they thought it was a hybrid and sold him to me for $12.

im hoping the lady i got them from can get more in. The ppl that brought them hybrids thought it was another hybrid but now im excited that its its own species and now i hope she can get more in so i can have pairs. I hate that it doesnt have more of its kind with it.

drop me a note if you run into trouble finding a male... I don't have an extra male but I do know a lot of finch people, specially along the Gulf coast... I will be at the bird club show in Mobile later this month.
