just acquired 2 CB's to accompany my 2 CB males who lost their mates. My one new female has a wonderful song -- my other females did not, only the males sing. Is this unusual? Thanks for whatever thoughts you may have.

Cordon Bleu hens do sing, though most of them do not have as good a song as the males. And I find that all my CBs have somewhat different songs, they still sound like CBs, but individual tunes. If you have your CB pairs together in a cage, the males will fight--if they are in a large, well-planted aviary, they may get along. The other thing I noticed is that you have lost and replaced both your hens. It may have been from natural causes, but I find that my CB hens were particularly prone to eggbinding. With plenty of eggfood with cod liver oil and wheat germ oil added, I don't seem to have that problem anymore.

Thanks for the info. My females passed sometime ago, and amazingly, the 2 males rarely fight -- they seemed to try to out sing each other. I had them with 2 white headed nuns, just lost the female -- they are my favorite birds and cannot find any in all of NJ. One of the 2 new CB females, seems to have bonded with a Mannekin which I bought at the same time from a breeder, here. The breeder recommended it since I cannot find a Nun, but my remaining Nun does not seem interested-- no hostility thou.

Yeah, each individual CB seems to have its own different way of singing, though not totally different from the main tune. You're lucky to have a female that sings.
