It's generally hard to sex Euro goldfinches, but generally the red mask of males' go past his eyes and those of females generally don't. I believe you have a male.
1 European Goldfinch (on look out for more)

A few better photo's would help the experts with sexing these, if you look at this post you'll know what type of photo's to take, important factors are nostril hair colour, mask and wing coverts

I would not to add a new thread so I am writting here about compliant problem which sam3131 has.

So, I have to finches - I was thinking that male and female. Male called "Batman" - typical-coloured finch with orange chicks and i do not have any doubt he is he :) Female named "Balbina" (from polish old cartoon "Ptyś i Balbina") - white with silver cap and back. At the beginning, Balbina has had brighter beak than Batman, but now I think they have beaks it the same colours - her beak has became darker? both of them are singing, but it is not stated that females can not sing so... I do not know what to think about her talkative being. What is more she sings softly, with higher tones ;)

I attached photos below. Please, help me recognize gender of Balbina

i made a guide on how to sex the goldfinch.
the one tip that never fails is the shoulder color..

andiok - great pictures to illustrate the differences. I bred European goldfinches for many, many years and always found the color of the small feathers on the shoulder (black or brown) to be the best way to sex them. But this only works with mature birds.

@isobea
i have to disagree on that. even on young goldfinches the shoulder color is the best way to distinguish them, but not the only one. here i made for you a picture that will give some tips on that.

tip- if the color on the shoulder of the young goldfinch is not convincing you, you pull some of them and wait till the come out. the new feathers will definitely have the gender's color. if you are patient then wait till they molt

andiok - you did an amazing job documenting everything. Thank you. I wish there was one central folder on this forum for all the goldfinch related info. Again and again people ask for help identifying males and females.
Now I just wish I could have goldfinches again (I haven't had any for the last 7 years), but the mosquitos in our area might still carry that mutated canary pox virus. Too much of a risk.
