MIrror in cage

Got my singleton Society a mirror for his cage. Last night he was looking in the mirror, then he would look all around the cage as if looking for another bird. Now I don't know whether I should leave it in or not, I don't want him distressed looking for something that isn't there. A bird friend at work suggested getting his something called a "bird buddy" that he can snuggle up to.

Any thoughts?

Get him another society finch. In the wild, one would never, ever be alone for even a few moments and solitude is among the most stressful things long-term for most flock birds. A mirror or a stuffed animal cannot provide the same comfort.

They often can be confused by mirrors or fake birds. As mentioned, solitude is awful for a bird. Imagine being in a cage with nobody but yourself. Maybe it is best to get a partner.

I would strongly recommend getting another Socie for your little friend. Finches, and in particular Society Finches, don't do well on their own. This species, is extremely flock oriented and need at least one companion to be happy and healthy.

A mirror in the cage, should not present a problem. A bird buddy, would be rather useless really, as they need a live companion with whom they can cuddle and preen one another, eat, and sleep together.
