I recently received a group of finches and a larger aviary (3'x4'x6.5' tall) from an aviary supplier. One of the societies is a poor flyer & couldn't reach the upper perches. I draped a small rope in the cage & that has worked well. He just scampers up the rope & has adapted well to his handicap. I've had the birds for nearly 2 weeks so I doubt if his flying ability will improve.
The potential problem now is coming down...sometimes he seems a little out of control flying down & I'm afraid he could injure himself. A small cage would be a solution, but I want him to be able to be with the other birds since they all get along so well. There's probably not a good solution out there, but I'm looking for ideas??? Thanks.

Re: Poor flying finch in a large aviary
Lucky you to have a nice large aviary! Would love to see photos sometime.
When I have poor fliers (either because of handicap or just age) I usually add some extra perches so they have short distances to fly from one to the next.
Best of luck, and congrats on the new set up and birds!
