Question on Rehoming

Post by Bfitzthum » Tue May 31, 2016 2:42 pm

How do you sell your babies? I have been trying to rehoming my young zebras for months now with little to no interest on local and not so local pet sites. I also tried Craigslist in the beginning and all I got was people demanding they be free with a cage.

Unfortunately, this is the reality with Zebra finches (Societies too sometimes). They are so easy to breed that many people are trying to rehome them. Pet shops usually aren't too interested unless you give them to them, and even then they know that they may have trouble selling them, so they are reluctant to take them. If you offer them for free on Craigslist, you will have the snake owners wanting them for food for their pet snakes.

Before anyone breeds Zebras (really any species of finch), it is a good idea to try to figure out in advance what to do with all the babies. There are not always very many options. Where are you located?

I am in Auburn, near Seattle. The pet stores I have talked to already have breeders supplying them, so don't really want them. I have had a lot of people flake on me, even at a small rehoming fee.

I can keep them, always an option. Since mama bird lost her foot she hasn't shown any desire to breed again. But I will keep on trying.
