when can baby zebra finches eat other things?

Post by newbie » Mon Jun 20, 2016 9:57 am

Our zebra babies are now flying around and occasionally pecking at seeds that have fallen to the floor. They haven't got the hang of cracking them open but I wanted to know if its ok to continue laying food like egg and cucumber out for the parents or if it's risky for the babies if the try to eat it.

It will not hurt your babies at all to try out different foods. ln fact, that is one way they learn to eat, by watching their parents. You need to keep egg food out now for the parents to continue feeding the babies, for the babies to learn to eat on their own, and even once they are weaned, juveniles need egg food to keep growing. Veggies are also just as important. Another food that is easy for babies is spray millet.

Ok will do. Also i occasionally see the babies regurgitate and chew on seeds but they mostly spit them out. Is that normal?
