spending time in the nest during the day ?

Post by Makufye » Sun Jul 10, 2016 12:40 pm

I have two male zebras, and according to the person who gave them to me, they are clutch-mates. They seem to be adjusting well to their new cage, and they seem very eager to try new things. They have been enjoying their little bathtub and yesterday, they tasted kale (I got a large leaf and washed it, and then while it was damp, stuck it in the cage with a sprinkle of seed. They ate all of the seed and got some bites of kale, too, after they dragged it around the cage.)

One of the boys (and I'm sure it's the same one) seems to spend more time in the nest during the day. The other one sings a lot. They aren't just meeping, but too too to teeet too too too teet (if that makes sense). Do I have to worry that something is going on with the nester? Both are eating and drinking and flying around. I see them both in the water and eating. All poop looks normal. (I do know about poops because I have had a budgie and have a tiel, and I work in a vet that sees birds.)

Sorry if this is basic stuff. These little guys have only been here about a week. I am new to finches, but they sure are cute! Thanks.

Now both are cuddling. It's late afternoon. They can see the sun outside, but there is a shadow over their cage. It's 72 in there, so I don't think they are hot. If they are anything like yesterday, they will come out again for the early evening, and then be in bed around 8 or 8:30 for the night. Sound typical?

If they are clutch mates, they are used to each other, so the cuddling is normal, I would think. I'm surprised one is spending a lot of time in the nest during the day. Are you sure you have two boys? Are they quite young still?
