can I keep a canary?
Can I house a canary with society finches? Or will my society finches be scared of it?

Re: can I keep a canary?
Tish if the cage is of a reasonable size I can't onestly see any reason why not,
If the canary is a cock bird it'll probably be ok for a while but may possibly become a little boystress when it comes into breeding condition and then may have to separate him ,
If the canary is a hen it's quite possible that the birds should be ok, most of the time,
I say most of the time because all birds no matter how compatible they may seem sometime or other have little squabbles, but is normally over within a few seconds

Re: can I keep a canary?
I have canaries in with my zebras but they don't interact so I think it is more about how much space you have so that they are happy. They are so friendly. One problem I have is that when the canaries have eggs, they are being tossed from the nest and I suspect the zebras are doing this.
As I am not particular about them breeding at the moment, I have removed the nests and may have to separate the canaries if I want babies next year.

Re: can I keep a canary?
Tish, I house my canaries with my societies and they are fine together. The societies are the ones in my aviary that boss the canaries around. I have 8 societies and 22 canaries. Occasionally, they will sit close to each other on perches but, for the most part, they don't really interact unless they are at the food dish. Nice cage!
