Buckie, based on the photos provided before Peep is definitely a house sparrow, not a finch.

Sandra LOVE that video!! Kiki seems awesome!! I bet it was tough hand raising though (i've read horror stories of no sleep, etc) but that's great that you have a friend birds as oppose to a wild Pet bird!! I'm glad you brought that up about your bird losing it's mate, because I KNOW I've read other stories where a bird was "not right" after losing it's mate... that's not coincidenct and there has to be some sort of intelligence to mourn or miss a mate. I know we don't "KNOW" for sure if they are "depressed" but they sure act it. And when I separated my bonded pair, they were MISERABLE... it's hard to explain, but i just KNEW by the way they were calling and waiting for the call back.... just little things. I just wanted to comment on your Kiki adorable, I hoped to have tame finches, as I am the type of person that LOVES my pets, and devotes a lot of time and research to them... but I realized I am happy the way they are (i'm also a wild bird enthusiast) so it's kind of cool having "wild" birds to watch as well.

lnlovesorange, Yes the 2 first months were very hard on me. My Kiki asked to be fed every hour (no joke) That limited me a lot. I have children in school and I walk to and from school 5 times a day ... Not to mention Xmas ... I had to find a extension for the car to plug her brooder and tag her along our visits ... NOT only that but that brooder was on my side table at night. so I could monitor her temps though out the night. I'm so glad its over.
its very nice to have a tamed finch but honestly I will never get a bird out of its parent just so to have a tamed finch. I feel like its not fair for Kiki that she wasn't raised the natural way. But I had no choice to get the last remaining eggs as the parents were neglecting the siblings and the remaining eggs. I took the chance.
BTW I also LOVE outdoor birds!!! I go to the Wild Care Bird Center here just to see them. They are awesome. I've taken a couple of injured wild birds to that location. They are awesome.
