Ontariomama

Personally, I put my arm (and well half of the rest of me :-)) into the flight, wait for everyone to settle down (some on top of my head of course), and just grab the wanted youngster, sometimes In mid air (one has to think CAT, and become the CAT, lol).

However with some folks, becoming a cat is not an option, that's why I posted the pictures of the nets.

Some birds, like the wee Waxbills, are almost impossible to catch if let loose in a room situation . They don't stay anywhere long enough to place a net over them, and boy are they fast.

I did the spray-down method last week and it worked well. Mr. Spice was the only one it didn't seem to phase... and he is my expert flier and the former escapee. I think he just likes to give me a challenge.

But I have to say, spraying helped and each time I catch them I get a little more calm, more steady handed and it goes a little better.

This is when a Petco type 30"X18"X18" cage with a removable divider comes in handy. Just slide the divider in and it cuts the flight area in half. I trained my Java to go into the other cage by sliding the cages together (doors have to match up). Just open both doors and she goes right in. Don't be in a hurry the first few times until they know what you want. Place a piece of millet inside the door of the cage you want them to go into along with a perch for them to hop onto right up to the door.
