marymac, injections? I can't imagine giving a tiny finch an injection.

I treat my own birds too. The avian vets around my area are expensive. $80 - $100 just for the vet to see the bird and the treatment is over and above that. I'm not going to discredit any of them but they seem to be more knowledgeable in treating larger birds.

I have a local bird store owner, who has been in business and raised birds since the mid 80's, that I ask for advice (as well as the long term breeders/hobbyists on this forum). He carries the meds in his store too, which is rare around my area.

I keep a handful of meds on hand in, what I call, my "Drawer 'o Bird Meds".

Iverlux & S76
Calcium
Ronex 12%
Abba Rx Sulfcox & Tri-sulfa
Amoxitex
Multi-vitamin
Neosporin
Hand-feed formula
HEAT LAMP!

No, I won't be returning to that particular vet.

The Ivermectin was NOT injected!!! Just the antibiotic.

I have a few people who I can call now for advice and help on how to treat my birds myself for the everyday things like ASM, and such.

If I do have a big emergency that requires a vet, I will insist on seeing the main Dr.( She was fine on my first visit. She just was not available the day) I find that to be a problem at all clinics that I've been to for my dogs. I have one vet that I like and trust, and every once in awhile I must rely on someone else in a clinic in an urgent situation. 9 times out of 10, I always walk away wishing I could have used the one I liked.
