They will lay an egg every other day until their clutch is full.

Normally, they lay one egg a day until their clutch is complete, as it takes approximately 24 hours for an egg to form. Though it is not common, I have heard of hens skipping a day while laying eggs. Here is very interesting article on the egg, including a description of the process of egg formation and laying.

I've had it happen on occasion.
Seems that certain hens are more prone than others.
In fact, I had one hen who missed a day at some point with nearly every clutch. But none of my current females has ever done it.

Ooops meant to write they lay every day until they clutch is done...but mine just skipped a day, so that would fit the every other day theory...on occasion.

I had some zebra hens that would lay every other day, and some every day until the clutch was complete. I always just let them do their thing. Sometimes egg laying just takes a little extra time

Thanks for the answers. It looks like my hen didn't skip a day, she only laid three and one fell to the ground. But they have been sitting on the nest uninterupted for 7 days now.
I sure hope this means that they will hatch.

I hope you get the results that you're hoping for! Mine just laid 6 eggs and skipped one day on the third egg, which surprised me. I'm hoping to get at least one chick out of the clutch. My male zebra is 10 years 4 months with a 1 year old hen. He's pretty senile....so it's funny to watch him mating. He starts...and stops to look at the ceiling, forgetting what he was doing. I'm hoping he actually figured it out as he used to be very prolific. Now I wish I kept one of his offspring. Fingers crossed for us both!
