Zebra's in General

Hi. I read the post titled 'Societies in General' and found LoveZeb's reply very informative.
I didn't want to jump the other post and I would like the same type of information only in regards to Zebra's. I have two female Zebra's but am wondering if any of the same characteristics of Societies are true of Zebra's as well?
Can I house other species with the Zebras? Or are they too aggressive? Would I need a separate cage?
Please, will someone knowledgeable or experienced with both breeds fill me in? Thanks

Zebras are aggressive and usually don't get along well with each other or with other species. They are pushy and aggressive even with their own young too. They breed like rabbits, so I'd suggest keeping them in 30 inch wide cages at a minimum. The more space and places to hide, like greenery, the better they'll get along. Most zebra breeders keep them in one pair to a cage set ups. Some keep them in large aviaries or flights. They make a honking sound that can get quite loud if there are a group.

I have canaries in a mixed aviary and the male sings all the time. He gets along great with the female canaries as well as other finches. As long as there's enough room for each bird to stake out his/her territory, the canary will be happy.

Very interesting. I think I have decided to leave my two girls alone in their cage. They are getting along so well, I wouldn't want to throw a 'wrench' into the works and mess things up.

Tell me my friends, WHY is it so hard to resist the desire of wanting more birds? It's like a disease, taking all the willpower I possess to overcome the addicting desire. LOL

The American Psychiatric and Psychological Associations are going to need to add an addiction category to their diagnostic manuals: Finch Addiction: The compulsion or urge to obssess about finches, to buy more finches than space allows, to add more cages for the new additions, spending money on finches, cages, supplies, etc that the person really can't afford, and a very cheerful mood, especially upon the acquisition of new finches and/or hatchlings!

Ha, see, I didn't realize that zebra finches are supposed to be hyper pushy, so over the years, I've never hesitated to pair them up with other species.

So I've paired zebras with virtually any and every finch species without any real issues. (An occasional conflict of personalities between individuals every now and then, but nothing where you'd say that it was a species-wide conflict.)

Really depends on the individuals, I'd say.

I don't think I will take a chance on disturbing the peace in my zebra's cage considering there seems to be the possibility of much disruption no matter what I may try.
Early-on (day 3) I introduced a male into the cage and returned it to where I purchased it due to aggressive behavior. I know I could have tried some more pairing, and would have liked some more birds in the cage, but I don't feel I am experienced enough to deal with all of the possibilities LOL LOL Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I love reading all of this

~You could possibly add two male Zebras. With lots of greenery for privacy, and three or four nests at various locations around the cage... What can I say... Before you know it, it would be: Zebbie and Zebbie sitting in a tree, k♥I♥s♥s♥I♥n♥g, first comes , then come the eggs...
