Does it cause a problem splitting up a proven pair ?
IE . Will they adjust and find a new partner ok ?

Most species will adjust to a new partner. I would say that if you are breaking up a pairing, I'd put the birds where they can't see their old mate. Give them a little time, and they will bond with their new mate.

I just did a switcheroo with 2 pairs this morning; with their guy they weren't doing anything, so I thought I'd take a chance & switch them. They seem a lot more peppy with their new partners.

Thanks for that.
i think the birds we originally got were quite old .we lost one female a few months ago and the dilute male we got is very lathargic since he fathered the last chicks (which are all coloured up now). Would be nice if he could have another clutch in the spring but im not sure hes up to it.
At least he had one clutch for us though and were more than happy with them.
