They ate apples until I tried celery. Now, they only eat celery. I would like to try strawberries and blueberries. Are they safe? What else might be nice to try? Thanks!

Hi Buckie.what sort of fin hes do you have?
Interesting, I've never had any birds that would eat celery.
Regarding vegetables, there are many choices.
Kale
Broccoli
Romaine lettuce
Beet greens.
Carrot greens
Cucumber
Grated carrots
Parsley
Spinach
Red Swiss chard
Corn on the cob
Baby Spring Mix , and more...
In the fruit department, mine eat:
Chopped apples
Mandarins, cut in half.
Chopped grapes
Melons
Bananas
Blueberries
Strawberries
Pomegranates, and more...
A large portion of their diet consists of fresh foods, and hard boiled eggs, plus a good quality Finch/ Canary seed mix

There is a section in the Finch Information Center that deals with nutrients and their sources which may be helpful to you

Thanks! I hang millet sprays from the top of the cage along with stalks of celery. They love hanging on them and munching away! They also get Harrison's Organic Bird Pellets, small bird seed, and dried meal worms. I have two society finches and a wild rehab finch....Peep, Peck, and Pip.

Our birds aren't big on fruit but enjoy apples, my Javas will eat grapes as well. Of greens not a single of my birds will try celery but everyone loves romaine and leaf lettuce, broccoli, chard, spinach, baby kale, and dandelion, I provide a mix of greens they can forage their choice bits from daily, which is like how they'd eat in the wild.
And Pip is a house sparrow, not a finch. If he were a finch the rehabbers would have taken him. All wild finches are illegal as pets. His being a sparrow means his care is a bit different, he needs more protein from insects, may eat more fruit, and might not like as much leafy greens.
