Its been a couple years since I've owned finches but I had learned so much from the 7 years I owned them and all the experiences. So this time around will be much easier. Expecting good things this time around and now that I have my own place I don't have to worry bout having to regime my birdies again. I'm glad to be back I really missed my finches. This is by far my most favorite hobby and I was just waiting for the right time before getting back into it.

I edited my post and added a pic of the new flight I built. Right now it houses 1 fawn society 2 chocolate pied societies and 5 red-eyed white societies. There all crested except for the fawn. I got her from another breeder. There is also a trio of button quail who I'm hoping will be laying eggs soon. The male has mated with both females the past couple days and have raised their babies in the past. I'm expecting eggs from the societies as well. They have been breeding like crazy and tearin up some egg food and veggies.

Welcome back, i'd love some button quail , just need to decide on cage design and find space for the cage, parent rearing button quail are a great addition for any setup.

You should do some research on the crested societies as i believe it's not advisable to breed 2 x crested together

jamezyboo21 Love that cage, how do the access doors work, just lift up, or do they swing open like on a hinge? You did a beautiful job. I'm looking around lately wanting to build a large flight for my birds. Right now I have them in separate cages (a pair of zebras in one cage, their 4 babies in another who are almost 2 month old, and 3 almost year old gouldy's in a third cage) I'd like to get one large flight to house them together, as right now they all hand on the sides of the cage to see what is going on in the other cage (espeically in the baby zebra cage, as they are CONSTANTLY doing something meeping, flying chirping, attempting a song... what have you. Love the gouldy in your profile pic too, beautiful. Welcome back, it must be nice to not have to worry about it (having your own place) i'm hoping to get to that point in the VERY near future!!! Welcome back, and good luck with all the breeding babies!!!!

Thanks everyone! I like to add greenery to all my cages. I try to make it as homey as possible. I'm not sure bout breeding crested to crested but this is a temporary setup for the societies. I will be splitting them up into pairs or trios of different bloodlines in a week. There gonna be backup fosters just incase my other finches decide they don't want to raise their babies.
As for the doors on the cage they swing open. I made my flight completely out of wire and zip ties.

Very nice flight. What are the dimensions? What sort of wire are you using, and what type of screen material?

Good luck and welcome back.

Welcome back. You can use J-clips and pliers to make a wire mesh cage. Both J-clips and pliers are available at walmart.

Welcome back! You have a beautiful set up. Very nice work! It looks like you have something solid covering the sides and top. What did you use? I would like to try and build something like this. You did a great job!
Congratulations!

Thanks Jen I don't know what it is. It is like a blanket made out of a foam material and it has little holes in it. I just saw it at a store for like 4 bucks and cut it to fit all side of the cage except the front and bottom. I liked it because it was green and filled in the spots where I didn't have much foliage covering the wire.
