Odd little noise maker :)
Hi there o/
So my partner has some finches (Zebras and Bengalese) and they have started building (or attempting) to build nests. One pair are quite awesome at it, the others not so much!
One of the Zebras, Brian (a little Georgie I believe), really likes his nest bowl and will quite happily sit in it for hours. It has about 3 bits of straw in there and they seem happy with that as a 'nest' for now. However, he does make this odd little noise that I've not heard any of the others make! It's like a cute little 'weeeEEEeeeeew' noise -not entirely unlike R2D2 scream but quieter and cuter!
Does anyone know what this is? Is he just having a happy little chat to himself? He'll do it with his lady friend is near or nowhere near!
Thanks in advance,
Nat

Re: Odd little noise maker :)
I can't help you with the odd little noise, since I don't have Zebras, but I did want to welcome you to the forum! There's lots of good reading at www.finchinfo.com, where you will find many articles on finch care, diet, housing, and especially the Zebra finch. If you put your general location in your profile, it makes it easier to answer locale-specific questions later on.

Welcome to the forum!
Can you capture the sound on a video or audio? That would be super helpful!
Zebras are super vocal and it's not uncommon for them to make little sounds.
I have a little male that I raised and he's ***constantly*** talking to himself! He does a soft little sound about 80% of the time. It's adorable.

Thank you!
Ok here it is, however I can only just hear it with my speakers turned all the way up!
It's the background softer noise not the louder clanking about (that's everybody else jumping about!).
I'll try and get a better version if this is too quiet though

That is cute! I've had zebras who use to have random noises or their unique sound. Brian has a unique sound.

Re: Odd little noise maker :)
Minxy Your birds are such little beauties and cuties!!!! It was really hard to hear in the sound clip (it's hard to hear anything over their honking and meeping!) But my mail has a noise, that I'm betting is what you ar talking about, or similar, but I call it his "love" noise. When he wants to mate, or when he is going into or coming out of his nest it's this elongated Meeeeeeeep but it's quiet and kind of..... hoarse almost... His name is Melvin his mate's name is Charlotte. I also call it his "come here charlotte let me contribute to making an egg with you...." voice !!!!! (trying to keep this G rated) But I'm sure you get my drift!!! I'm willing to bet that's it, cuz he first started doing it when I put the nest in. And same idea, he does it alone, or when Charlotte's there.... (sometimes I think when she's not there, he's trying to call her back cuz he's feeling lonely!!!) Anyway, I don't have a recording of it, but I have a feeling that's probably it, at first it did make me not nervous, so much as just .... curious.... but he does it all the time now, just one of their MANY noises, and it's actually a quiet one, which I didn't think Zebras were capable of being quiet!!!! LOL Anyway. Welcome to the forum, would love to see more pictures. Good luck with your kids!!!
