What does that sound mean?
What does that little, repetitive crowing sound mean in "finch speak"? I'm not sure how else to explain it...they sort of hush their normal volume level and keep crowing over and over again. Sometimes they do it when they're about to enter a nest.

A little more information would be helpful. What species? Is it more like a murmuring sound? Do they have babies/eggs in that nest?

They are gouldians. It IS kind of like a murmuring...almost like they're talking to themselves. They didn't have eggs/babies...but now they do! Yesterday I found a hurled egg on the floor, and today I see a single egg. Nests were introduced a couple of weeks ago.
I have heard this sound before the nests appeared, though not as pronounced, now that I think about it.

Zebra finches are easier as they always beep or meep! I also have a star finch, and he makes a very soft warbling sound. I've never had Gouldians, but they seem to be very sweet birds. I had one singing to me in the pet shop, which was suprising!
Good luck with yours!
