They're Here!

Post by mrski » Tue Nov 24, 2015 2:35 pm

If you saw my previous post you know I built this aviary/flight (I don't know what to call it) years ago, but it has been empty for about ten years. It has been brought back to life now! We started with a pair of Blue-capped Cordon Bleus and they are just delightful.

Thanks for all of your suggestions and help. We are so pleased with these new birds. They seem very happy in their new home. They were "caught in the wild and imported", so the seller (Bird World in Bountiful Utah. They're great!) had them in quarantine for 10 days, and also watched them to make sure they figured out how to eat from a dish. I was happy to see them both find the millet spray, seed dish and water. I also gave them a little kale, but I haven't seen them eat it yet.

I taped paper to the side windows, which has helped them stay calm and not try to fly into the glass. They seem to be exploring every branch and perch, and getting comfortable. They were singing so beautifully this morning! I love it!

There is plenty more for me to do and learn.

Thanks again!

Such a beautiful home for your birdies looks like you have a pair. Have you name them?

I love how you took all of my decor advice haha, looks GREAT. Especially how you put the leaves on the actual real branches, truly looks like living foliage.

It would be a good idea to keep the sides covered, cordons like a lot of privacy and not to be exposed.

Keep us updated!

It looks just like your drawing, doesn't it? :D In fact, I also made a bird bath, but it's not in the picture. I really like how the big swinging branch on the right worked out. They love it.

No, but that's the most important next step. We're working on it. I like Peregrin Took (Pippen) and Meriadoc Brandybuck (Merry), but since they're African, and my wife lived in South Africa, we think they need African names.

We love to just sit and watch them.

Oops. Trying to quote two comments in the same post didn't work so well. Hopefully you can figure it out.

Wow! Gorgeous aviary and the birds are incredibly beautiful! I wish I could paint, that would be a great scene.

I'm from Utah as well! South Jordan.

If you haven't picked names yet, could I suggest?

How about Mandela and Thembu?

They are so pretty. I was very curious about them after seeing your pictures and spent a bit of time looking at the breed on youtube. They are terrific birds!
