Stafford first time
Hi,
As a birthday treat I'm going to stafford for the first time.
I live in Northern Ireland, Belfast, and will be taking birds back there
Is there anything I should know? Any advice/essential knowledge?
Very excited but nervous in case do something wrong out of ignorance ha
I wont need anything to bring the birds back in a car on ferry would I?

Welcome and yes a small cage, some water, millet, maybe a cloth to cover the cage if you have a long trip? Study before you buy. Flight cages for finches not tall ones and some breeds are more passive than others. These little birdies are so sweet. Have you a certain Bird in mind?
And WELCOME

Smurf may be able to help you, as he is in Ireland and maybe he has been to Stafford before. Let us know what you get!

You'll have no problems bringing birds back, just make sure they have water and food while in transport cage, also if the're in cage for extended period place it were they can get some daylight such as on back seat of car as obviously they can't eat or drink in the dark.
I havn't been to Stafford yet but would love to go some day, you should have a great day.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply
I'm looking at Timor zebra, gold breast, some goulds. I will probably pick up a couple more but I'm mindful of space. I have a room I can use for shy birds. My parrots and my gouldian sit with me in the living room.
I'm using the big cages from zooplus. I just recently found them and am delighted! Bird cages are usually tall rather than wide - same goes for parrot cages, which isn't ideal for flight. These ones are brilliant.
My favourite bit is making the cages in to little habitats
still to shop around for things for them.
I have 2 small cages, where would you guys recommend getting more little cages that are cheap as will only be used getting them home?
So small cages, millet, drinkers, blankets - will be going home after the show I think. Staying the night before.
Im so glad I have the internet to enthuse about things like this.
I will of course post a lot of pictures ha!

Hi, I assume you mean the Stafford bird show? I went for the first time last October and bought a lot of birds. What date is the one you are referring to?
Strawberry finch, parsons finch, Green singer, cordon bleus, Gouldians, St Helena waxbills, Diamond Fire tails, owl finches, cut throats, parrot finches, zebra's, spice finch, hecks finch, bengelese finch, peach faced love birds, masked lovebirds, canaries, Java's, Bullfinch, Goldfinch and a pair of mandarin ducks

Ah yes I shall be there 6th March also. It's brilliant, in October I got a pair of cordon Bleus, green singers, parrot finches, strawberry finch and a bullfinch. All really healthy birds and all still thriving. They had numerous Gouldians as well. All a lot cheaper than you find in any pet shops and all in better condition

Just a word of caution about the zooplus cages if the're this type
http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/birds/bir ... ges/261925
I wouldn't put anything smaller than bengalese or Gouldians in these cages as i've heard of small birds escaping from them

Re: Stafford first time
It's a bigger cage than that, Ive one here
Because they are cheap they are rather flimsey with possible gaps when you assemble them. But you can cable tie it to tighten it up.
I think I'm going to put a few cages together like sally suggested.
I think I will post pictures of the stuff I'm bringing to stafford and the journey etc keep you all updated!
