Congratulations Peter.
You have a beautiful pair there.
I think you will fall in love with the Gouldian personality. They are such sweet, gentle birds.
Good luck with them.

Thanks Debbie and Sally. I'm going to wait until I come back from my vacation to then have them start breeding. I want to be able to assist in any urgent care needed through the process. I already have a couple of pet shops w/ available Society finches in case I need to buy one or two to help foster the eggs/babies (if needed). I love this site and I'm constantly looking at other posts from members to learn from.

OH they are very pretty birds, I think that first one (the male, now don't mind me I'm learning so I'm trying to get my genetics right) is a SF... Because all of his black markings are gray so he has a lack of black pigment.... Oh jeeez...
debbie276? LOL I'm trying, either way GREAT looking birds, I sure hope you have some kids soon!!! We love babies around here! Good luck, and any questions, ask away!

Thank you ~LN~. I'm new to finches so it'll take me a while to know their genetics. I've been researching on this site for the last few days and love all the available information between members.

debbie276 YES you have NO idea how happy i just was to read that response!!! See? Your "long winded" replies do NOT go unnoticed!!! I'm learning.. SHE CAN BE TAUGHT!!!! And what about the male? I don't see any coloring outlining his head, is that a marker for something?

I see a bluish tinge around the males head, though the picture isn't very clear. Usually males have more blue around the head then hens do.

SF Pastel
Hi Debbie,
Do you say Pastel because of the combination of green and yellow on him?
Thanx!

He is a SF Pastel because he has one pastel gene. The pastel gene blocks the color black. Because he only has one pastel gene and not two his body color will not be yellow or green but a shade in between, a lighter green color. Also all black areas will be gray.
So he is a RH.PB.SF Pastel (RedHead.PurpleBreast.SingleFactor Pastel)
and your hen is a BH.WB.Green (BlackHead.WhiteBreast.Green)
chicks you could get from that pair are:
males
RH/BH.PB/WB.SF Pastel (RedHead split to BlackHead.PurpleBreast split to WhiteBreast.SingleFactor Pastel) visually just like your male but with hidden genes for BH and WB
RH/BH.PB/WB.Green ((RedHead split to BlackHead.PurpleBreast split to WhiteBreast.Green) visually green bodied with hidden gene for BH aand WB
females
RH.PB/WB.Pastel visually yellow bodied and with hidden gene for WB
RH.PB/WB.Green visually green bodied with hidden gene for WB
