Hello, so I have 3 zebra finches two male and one female they get along really well, lately the female has started putting eggs on the nest but they don't even last a day, and they aren't on the bottom of the aviary either, why are they eating them? I wanted some little bird. Thanks in advance.

Maybe they're eating them because they don't have enough calcium? I'm not familiar with zebras, but I've heard that before with other finches.

If your birds are eating their own eggs, then they are lacking in protein and calcium.

What you need to do, is hard boil some eggs, peel them (save the shells), mash them with a fork , or put through a garlic press, and offer them to your birds. You can mix them with a little bit of spray millet (so that the birds will like them better). Once the egg shells are dry, crush them into tiny pieces, and offer them to your birds.

Hard boiled eggs, are a wonderful source of protein for your birds, and contain other important nutrients as well.

Egg shells, are a great source of calcium, which is very important for your birds if they are breeding.

You should also offer your birds a variety of greens, such as spinach, romaine lettuce, beet greens, broccoli, cucumber slices, grated carrots, and once in a while a bit of apple, and a slice of orange.

Good luck :D

Thank you for the information, i've been giving them an egg based food besides their seeds but they don't want to eat that food they only want to eat the eggs, I don't understand them, i'll try making what you said but i'm not sure they will eat it.
