Hey, who's laying eggs??!?!

Much to my surprise, I found a couple of broken eggs at the bottom of the cage recently. I've found 3 in total; there was nothing today. Hens lay infertile eggs sometimes, right? When they're getting adequate calcium...?
Is it normal for this to happen during the molt time of year? They're gouldians.

That's a good question. I know when I had my society finches at first I was told they were both female and from time to time they would just drop eggs. Weather if it was due to to much calcium I am not sure.
Hope someone can answer that question.
Or it could be that the hen laying eggs could be of her having her period ? Funny question LOL

It is not uncommon for hens to lay eggs with or without a male. Be sure she has a couple calcium sources as well as vitamin d.
If she is in an active molt laying eggs would be unusual but not unheard of. When the female gouldian is in breeding mode her beak will go black.

Thanks Debbie. The girls seem to be fully finished with the molt, the males are finishing up still. Only 1 of my 3 girls' beaks is black, so perhaps it is her that laid the eggs. Glad to hear this isn't worrisome, and they should be set with their calcium/vitamin source.
