Totally a newbie here...We got a pair of english chestnut flanked zebras 2 days ago and put them in our new flight cage. Today we got a pair of Gouldians. Everything was fine for the first couple hours but then the zebras (mostly the male) started becoming aggressive towards the gouldian male ( towards both but mostly the male) He chases them off the perch, chases them out of the enclosed feeder, chases them.
I bave 3 water sources and 2 food, lots of perches. Is there anytbing else I can do?
I rearranged everything and the zebra seems to have mellowed out.
After reading on here I see that housing Gouldians and zebras is not a good idea...not sure if I should even bother hoping they will get used to each other or just rehome the zebras.
Any advice? TIA

Hi,
small chasing and fights are normal even with a pair so you might want to watch closely for a day or two and see how things get along. if you continue to see the zebra male chasing then you might want to separate them.
Continues chasing will give a lot of pressure to the birds. Also zebras are always pushy toward their own kind and the rest of the finch family so its their way of life. Since the zebra is new he might be trying to set a territory for himself. If the fights gets worse to a point where features are getting plucked etc you might want to immediately separate them.

Since you've only owned the Zebras 2 days and the Gouldians a day, I would say they are still settling in. However, Zebras are pushy and Gouldians are passive, so they often don't mix well. It depends in part on how big the cage is, so that the Zebras can have their own territory--difficult to do unless the cage is quite large. My personal opinion is that I would rehome the Zebras and avoid any trouble altogether (can you return them to where you bought them?).

I've put a divider in the cage fir the next week or so and will try again. If he is still pretty aggressive the english zebras will be finding a new home! Thanks
