Hello,
My Gouldian pair doesn't seem to bond perfectly . The male is always singing
But the female seems to be not interested .
1.Shall I add another female gouldian finch?
Although they don't chase each other and sleep closely .i am pretty sure they
Are male and female.
2. Is there a problem adding another male ?

Hmmm... How long have they been in the cage together ? Is her beak black? (Ready for breeding)
Sometimes the female won't be attracted to a male that you pick. One time I put a female next to a cage with males in it. All the males would go to the side of her cage and I would carefully watch. She picked the male she wanted to be with. I could tell which one because her eye would be focused on this one particular make and her tale would curve to the side when he sung. I didn't want to add the males to her cage for fear of fighting. But this strategy worked for me when I had a picky female.

Hi, I would check to see if they have accepted the nest. Also if one of them is in earshot of a previous mate it will take much longer for the bond. They dont need to bond 'perfectly' as my one very best breeding pairs is always fighting during the resting period, but come the day I open the nest hole they are sooo lovey dovey... :D Good Luck.

Feed them some egg food and even some cod liver or fish oil on the food. If that doesn't work, get another pair and break up that pair and see what happens? It's not written in stone that they will accept each other. I always find that if the hen chooses the union usually works.
Also I try to use a previously bred bird with a first timer, it doesn't matter which one is the more mature bird.

Thanks Madcat ,Stony & BigBear0007 .I introduced a pair of shaft tail finches to the cage last week .The female gouldian(hen) was very aggressive .She would never allow any of the birds to sit next to her.I removed the long tail pair this morning to a new place .To my surprise the gouldians started their courtship .The female was shaking the head constantly and the male too ,also jumping at the same place.

@Madcat - Her beak has turned black .I guess she is in breeding mood.

My only worry though is although i have placed 2 nests in the enclosure they dont sleep inside and are sleeping outside on a branch close to each other .The female occasionally visits one of the nest which was loved by the shaft tail pairs .

Thanks for all your support . =D>

Gouldians dont sleep in the nest together. Its good news the pair are sleeping closely on a branch. That shows they are bonding. <3 If the female is going in and out of a nest, chances are the male has followed her into the nest and they may have already mated in there.

Eggs may be on the way.

When you notice the gouldian hen missing from the perch at night you will know they are sitting tight on eggs.
best of luck
