3 males 1 female

Post by Tish » Sun Aug 21, 2016 11:35 pm

I already have 1 male and 1 female society finch. My question is I would like to buy 2 more finches but what if I end up with 3 males, will they harass my 1 female?. I don't want her to be mated to death by them. I would have to buy from petsmart so I have no idea what gender I could end up with. Anyone with society finches please help me with this question.

You're inviting a war with three males and one female, I think :?
Buy sexed birds from a hobbyist.

I can't find one around me, that's why I have to buy from petsmart. I've had an ad up on Kijiji looking for females or 1 female and male. I'm at a loss.

Sometimes it's really hard to figure out certain finches male/female I think if you took the time to study them you might have a chance there is a very distinct song the male finch does at even a very young age if you have a cell phone and can play a male singing while you are watching them they might go for it and start singing if there is a male in there.I also was going to mention that if you let your male and female society breed they will give you a adorable family and when the last baby fledges take the nest out and your family of society will be very happy together and that cage looks like it would hold a family of five or six.I started out with what I thought was two males and the next thing I knew I had four babies they have lived together very happily for months and have given me hrs of watching there little personalities are the best Best of luck with your search and decision

I put in a nest, but they refuse to go into it, their afraid of it. I have a feeling I won't get babies out of them

societies? if you have males and females and they are fertile, you WILL have eggs. Youll have societies coming out of your ears. ~X(

If you end up with 3 males and 1 female you can break them up into pairs and they should be OK. I wouldn't keep 3 females to 1 female. They'd probably harass her

Kind Regards

I always thought society just loved nest I have read that even males will sleep together in one, that is how I ended up with a family ,was told the friend I bought for George was a female he ended up being a Gracie and needless to say they just loved there nest. Each little bird sure has there own little quirks.Best of luck finding another pair
