That's not unusual; if they aren't harming each other, they should be fine. I got some Java finches about three weeks ago, and they went from growling and beak fencing to sitting several inches away from each other without too much fuss. It just takes time.

Last night they slept side by side but around lunch time today they are back at chasing each other around. What I can tell by watching them is that the new bird is trying to dominate the other by mounting and he is not having that. They behave very differently at night by tolerating each other much more.
