Unhappy;( my chick is suffering in pet shop

I sold my two chicks to my local pet shop and I went back recently to see if they was sold whilst I bought food and was horrified at what a state my female finch was in luckily my aviary is almost done so I am gonna get her back tommorow I have added a picture below from before and after

The male is doing fine so he can stay he actually looks healthy

Be careful when dealing with unkempt birds; illness could be contributing to the look. It's best to quarantine at least a couple of weeks or until the bird's feathers have grown back (whichever comes last) to ensure that there isn't an underlying condition; many birds also tend to pick on the plucked ones more.

Well he only has five and she's the only female in there

Just annoyed because I keep all my finches healthy

And this has happened to one of my chicks really want to get her back but then I'm thinking is this what just goes on and once she has been bought she will be fine

quarantine for no less than 90 days, as stated in a few posts...viruses can live in a bird for 90 days or more.... do not put her in the same room or cage as your existing birds.

also check the bottom of the cage she is being kept in.... droppings with undigested seed indicate issues regarding internal parasites.

look for large fluffy white droppings... another indicator.... large splats of droppings also.

I would also recommend treating her preventatively for mites as a precaution.... especially if in with other birds from other breeders.

Yes I have found a new buyer anyway who looks after them a lot better

That's great news.
It always makes you feel better, when you know thet're going to a good home where they will be well looked after.

Yes it does because you start to think why should I look after my finches well if they are going to get sold to someone who knows nothing

What did it fully for me was when one of the workers said wait till the bird guy is in he's a breeder who knows about the finches and he didn't even know how to tell if a zebra finch was a boy or girl (this was when I first started ) obviously I know now you would think a pet shop owner would know that

It annoys me when pet shops add a single hen to a cage full of boys. They get so harassed and can't maintain good condition.

Yes he begged me for these chicks because he was running low on society's because his breeeder hadn't give any so he only had 5 which he thought was a mixture of females and males when I sat there for ten minutes and watched each one dance (this was noticed after I give the ny finches )
